About FloridaPoolInsider

The data is out there.
We made it usable.

Every Florida pool contractor's license, permit history, and reviews are publicly available — buried across dozens of government portals. We pulled it all together so you don't have to.

The reality
"The data exists. DBPR has it. County building departments have it. But pulling it all together — for every contractor you're considering — takes hours most people don't have."

In Florida, every licensed pool contractor has a public CPC license record. Every permitted pool job generates a public permit record. Every Google Business profile is public. It's all there.

But here's the problem: it's scattered across 32 county building department portals — each with its own interface — plus the DBPR license lookup, Google, and whatever else you can dig up. For a single contractor, you're looking at 30–60 minutes of research across systems that were clearly not designed for this kind of comparison.

Now multiply that by however many contractors you want to compare. Nobody does this. So most homeowners end up going by word of mouth, a quick Google search, and whoever sounds confident on the phone.

We thought that wasn't good enough. So we built the thing nobody had built: a single place where all of that data lives, normalized, cross-referenced, and actually readable.

What it takes to research one contractor yourself

This is what due diligence looks like without FloridaPoolInsider. For every contractor you're considering.

1
Ask the contractor for their CPC license number — or try to find it yourself on DBPR's website
2
Log into the Florida DBPR portal and manually look up the license to verify it's active and in good standing
3
Find the right county building department portal — each Florida county has a different one, with a different search interface
4
Search the permit database by contractor name and manually count how many permits they've pulled — new pools, renovations, repairs
5
Hunt for Google, BBB, and Houzz reviews separately and try to get a complete picture of their reputation across all platforms
6
Track down photos of actual completed projects — which may or may not exist anywhere online
Repeat for every contractor you want to compare. Most people give up after step 2.
↓   We did this for every pool builder in Florida — 40+ data points each   ↓

FloridaPoolInsider aggregates all of it. Over 40 data points per contractor — license status, permit history, ratings, reviews, contact info, photos, and trust signals — sourced from 4 independent systems and normalized so you can compare in seconds what used to take hours.

How we score
Our proprietary contractor rating
License standing
Is the CPC license active, current, and clean? Any complaints or disciplinary actions on record with DBPR?
Permit volume
How many permits has this contractor actually pulled? Volume is the clearest signal of real, ongoing activity in the field.
Review score
Weighted combination of Google Business average rating and total review count — volume matters as much as the number.
Years active
How long has the contractor been operating under their current license? Longevity with a clean record is a strong trust signal.
Profile completeness
Contractors who claim their profile and provide verified contact info, photos, and business details rank more prominently.
Note on claimed profiles: Contractors who claim and verify their profile on FloridaPoolInsider receive a completeness boost in their score. This reflects the fact that a contractor who actively maintains their information is more likely to be responsive and engaged — not that they paid for placement.
